Grace and Gratitude, My Journey into 2021.

I hold deep gratitude for the various cohorts I have been accepted into throughout my journey. They seem to appear at the precise moment that I need connection, belonging, inspiration, validation, acknowledgement, or just a good ole kick in the butt. Through these cohorts, I have been touched by some amazing people, whether in person, through their works (books, podcasts, webinars) or in some virtual fashion. Each encounter, no matter how long or short, continues to remind me how each one of us can have an amazing effect on those around us. Leading by example and treating people the way they want to be treated.

This past Friday, I had the privilege to meetup with one such cohort. We all met while working for an amazing company, working outside our home countries. What started as an “Afterwork” in Leiden, The Netherlands and then continued in Malmo, Sweden, continues to provide me with friendship, humor, support, expertise, inspiration, and a connection to an amazing group of people from around the world.

Where does gratitude come in? The continued feeling of home they helped create- especially at a time when we were actually far from home and family. At this moment in time, I am home, yet these great people created a second home that I continue enjoy visiting. The willingness to share culture and traditions with each other. The willingness to help each other in any means possible, whether an introduction, recommendation, or a referral. The areas of expertise we each bring to the group and the willingness to share that expertise with one another. How each one of us will not hesitate to throw out the “BS” card or challenge each other to reframe our perspective. Not one of us makes it through the session unscathed, there is always a little friendly poking or prodding in a Zoom jest. To be honest, I actually enjoy their version of football. Yet, I still don’t quite understand when they say that baseball is a slow game. Cricket- forget it. Even with all the meetings at Oz, I will still never understand that game. Is there a Cricket for Dummies book because I need it desperately? This group of amazing people continues to teach this American how to actively listen (Stefan: I am still practicing, and I think I interrupted you more than once on Friday – my deepest apologies). Great moment for reflection: how can I emulate how I hold space for coaching clients within this group? I continue to practice my mastery mindset around listening skills. Ironically, another good friend from a different cohort had posted “You have two ears and one mouth for a reason” on LinkedIn earlier this week.

This amazing group of individuals continues to energize me and make me feel at home. I am forever grateful to each and every one of you- thank you my friends. So much gratitude to carry me forward.

Now it’s your turn:

Who keeps you energized?

Who is your go-to when you need a good laugh, cry, or virtual hug?

What groups are you grateful for?

How do you acknowledge gratitude?
